  7. On October 12, 2008, the Irvine United Congregational Church will host a talk by the Dean of the
    Law School at the University of California, Dr. Erwin Chemerinsky, on the subject of the law on
    same-sex marriage. The meeting will convene at 12:30 p.m. in Plumer Hall on the church campus.
    Dr. Chemerinsky describes his talk as follows.
    The California Supreme Court’s decision providing for marriage equality is founded on
    well-established constitutional principles. Decisions have long recognized a fundamental
    right to marry and that groups, such as gays and lesbians, must not be subjected to
    arbitrary discrimination. Proposition 8 seeks to overturn this. What are the legal
    arguments for and against Proposition 8? What would be the legal effects if it is adopted?
    Earlier, on August 24, the congregation unanimously adopted a resolution opposing Proposition 8.

  8. CANCELED Peter Thottam talk Saturday Sept 27

    The Orange County Peace Coalition regrets this last-minute cancellation of Saturday’s speaking engagement featuring Peter Thottam, attorney and community activist.

    ===========================================
    PLEASE NOTE: SEPT 27 OCPC EVENT CANCELED!
    ===========================================

    More than his involvement with the LA impeachment and 9/11 truth movements, Peter wanted to zero in on the current U.S. economic crisis and its global implications. He wanted to share with the audience knowledge and experience from his former days as a securities attorney and as an analyst for Goldman Sachs.

    The OCPC is sorry for any inconvenience.
    But stay tuned for further notice!
