Devin, thank you for your response. Do you really mean there is NOTHING that the government does better than the private sector? What about water management, police, military, libraries, schools, etc.?

Girl Scouts and the Richard Nixon Presidential Library Go Green

The public is invited to attend the family friendly event, “Girl Scouts Go Green,” hosted by the Girl Scouts of Yorba Linda on Sunday, March 14th at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The celebration marks the 98th birthdays of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A and First Lady Pat Nixon, once honorary president of Girl Scouts.
This environmental consciousness event will increase awareness of the need to maintain ecological balance, live within the resource limits of our planet, and support a sustainable society which utilizes resources in such a way that future generations will benefit rather than suffer from our practices.
Booths will be sponsored by both Orange County Girl Scout Troops and ‘green’ corporations. The Science Olympiad Team from Santiago Charter Middle School in Orange will be on hand to perform demonstrations on both renewable and non-renewable energies. In addition, all guests will have the opportunity to plant their own tree.
Boys and girls of all ages are invited for free admission, free parking and free birthday cake. Additional “greenergy” opportunities will be available at a nominal fee.

What:	Fourth Annual Hep C Aware/Orange County – Raising Awareness of Hepatitis C
Where:	Main Street Restaurant, 4902 Main Street, Yorba Linda, 714-777-9427
When:	Saturday, March 27h from 3pm – Midnight

Live Music Performances and Free Hepatits C Testing

Hep C Aware.org and Terri Eden will present the fourth annual Patrick Eden Hepatitis C Awareness event at Main Street Restaurant in Yorba Linda (4902 Main Street, 714-777-9427) on Saturday, March 27th from 3 pm - Midnight. This year’s scheduled musical performers are Debra Davis (4-6pm), Acoustic Conversation (6-8pm), Scott Detwieler (8-9pm), Kelly’s Lot (9-10pm), and Los Angeles Blues Society (10-Midnight). As always, this event promises more than good music and great food and drink, making free Hepatitis C screening and testing available.

The event remembers the third anniversary of the loss of Terri’s husband Patrick Eden to Hepatitis C. At age 54, he lost his life to the disease in March 2006. Terri would like to share how she and her late husband handled living with the disease and the changes in their lives that occurred as a result.

“It’s been two years since the loss of my husband”, says Terri, “and talking with people since his passing has amazed me, in learning how many people know someone with Hepatitis C. Most people don’t seem to be concerned about the person because they don’t understand how serious this disease is and don’t realize that by the time they look sick it may be too late”.

Patrick’s wife Terri joined the HepCAware street team after hearing about their telethon and grass roots awareness. Founder, Kelly Zirbes, helped Terri put her event together and the annual event was created. ”Helping others is a good way to deal with the loss”, Zirbes says. “It’s worked for many folks across the USA”.

Teri wants to help get the message out to people in her area.
She hopes that increased awareness will lead to more intense research on curing the disease. She would also like people to know that it is possible to live with Hepatitis C and to remember that “attitude is everything’. Patrick’s son, Sam, believes that his father is his guardian angel and that it is the strength of will and character of his father that guide him.

There is no vaccine for Hepatitis C. It is a virus that attacks the liver and is spread by blood-to-blood contact. Although 1 in 50 Americans have the disease, 2 out of 3 do not know it. Persons who most at risk include those who have received blood, blood products or an organ transplant prior to 1992; those who have been involved with drug abuse (either injecting or snorting); those who have been patients of dialysis, those who have been tattooed or pierced, shared personal care items, been incarcerated or have been a war veteran (especially Vietnam).

This is a free event that is open to the public. Musical performances by Debra Davis, Acoustic Conversation, Scott Detwieler, Kelly’s Lot and Los Angeles Blues Society Also there will be free Hepatitis testing. For more information call 818.769.2701.

Very informative video. Spread the word.

Questions for the Poseidon Clan and the Huntington Beach City Council:
1) Name the individuals with the City who gave and/or signed the "agreement" with Poseidon and were they handling this leagally?
2)What is Poseidon's track record in building and operating $350 to $500 million projects in the water desal business?
3)What is theeducational backround on the members of the Huntington Beach City Counci?
4)What is the source of the "Private" money and what are the terms and conditions?

Changing the taxation from two litters per year to two dogs per year was one of the SNEAKIEST things the CA tax department has done yet! Not a public hearing that anyone knew about, not a peep of input from anyone! Just suppose the tax board did that to everyone who sells anything in California: Sell two you're fine, sell four or six and you must buy a license that requires you to sell TEN to break even!

This new tax/license combination is so high it is actually an incentive to sell MORE dogs. Did anyone bother to look at that? Don't tell the Republicans they are being fiscally irresponsible when the largely Democratic tax board does that! (By the way, I am a moderate Democrat and I respect good people in both parties)

Lets take this "underground breeder" thing one step further. Ms Mancuso claims that her so-called underground breeders "dump their unsold “product” in our shelters." Wrong- small breeders breed purebred dogs, the dogs in shelters that are not retrieved by their owners are not purebred.

The mixed breed - either called border collie mix, put bull mix or recently chihuahua mix even though a current study shows these guesses are 95% incorrect - the mixed breed litters are the result of lack of owner education and lack of leash law enforcement.

And please, lets be honest about the number of animals and dogs euthanized each year. (1) The percentage of dogs euthanized is actually decreasing year over year WITHOUT mandatory spay neuter. (2) Break out the percentage into feral cats, abandoned domestic cats, abandoned domestic dogs and other "wild" animals (such as urban raccoons & skunks) and you will see that dogs, the target of Ms Mancuso's SB 250, are not the problem.

Finally, the dollar game: The cost to CA of animal control has magically increased from $250 million as testified by Ms Mancuso before the State legislature as recently as August 2009, to $300 million now - based upon what? And, its not completely a State cost, each County can choose if it wants to provide animal control. Even if the dogs were removed, you still need animal control to handle all the other species -the cost will not magically go away if you spay and neuter all the dogs.

Speaking of dollars, how much has it cost the state in terms of legislative time and overhead to entertain SB 250 last year and AB 1634 (same thing - spay and neuter all the dogs) in the two years before SB 250? How can the 2010 legislature justify spending any more money on this idea that the majority of Californians oppose? (Ms Mancuso's money is mostly from H$U$ out of DC) .

Its time to stop asking government to legislate responsibility - it never works anyway. Get out of the legislative spotlight and into the streets and neighborhoods (not Bev Hills) where people love their pets but just need respectful education ---not elitist scolding.

Changing the taxation from two litters per year to two dogs per year was one of the SNEAKIEST things the CA tax department has done yet! Not a public hearing that anyone knew about, not a peep of input from anyone! Just suppose the tax board did that to everyone who sells anything in California: Sell two you’re fine, sell four or six and you must buy a license that requires you to sell TEN to break even!

This new tax/license combination is so high it is actually an incentive to sell MORE dogs. Did anyone bother to look at that? Don’t tell the Republicans they are being fiscally irresponsible when the largely Democratic tax board does that! (By the way, I am a moderate Democrat and I respect good people in both parties)

Lets take this “underground breeder” thing one step further. Ms Mancuso claims that her so-called underground breeders “dump their unsold “product” in our shelters.” Wrong- small breeders breed purebred dogs, the dogs in shelters that are not retrieved by their owners are not purebred.

The mixed breed – either called border collie mix, put bull mix or recently chihuahua mix even though a current study shows these guesses are 95% incorrect – the mixed breed litters are the result of lack of owner education and lack of leash law enforcement.

And please, lets be honest about the number of animals and dogs euthanized each year. (1) The percentage of dogs euthanized is actually decreasing year over year WITHOUT mandatory spay neuter. (2) Break out the percentage into feral cats, abandoned domestic cats, abandoned domestic dogs and other “wild” animals (such as urban raccoons & skunks) and you will see that dogs, the target of Ms Mancuso’s SB 250, are not the problem.

Finally, the dollar game: The cost to CA of animal control has magically increased from $250 million as testified by Ms Mancuso before the State legislature as recently as August 2009, to $300 million now – based upon what? And, its not completely a State cost, each County can choose if it wants to provide animal control. Even if the dogs were removed, you still need animal control to handle all the other species -the cost will not magically go away if you spay and neuter all the dogs.
